5 Instant Steps to Going From Desk-to-Boss. The Fundamental Do’s to Starting Your Own Business

When you want to start your on business the first thing you need to do is plan,  a lot of people make this mistake, they forget to plan.

No matter all the marketing strategies that you have if you don’t plan and treat this like a real business, then you are bound to fail.

What is it that you want to achieve with your business? This is the first question you need to answer.

Are you starting it to be successful and make enough money to thrive on?

I call this the fundamental because you need to have these in place to have a solid foundation to base your achievement on.

So, let’s dive in…

You might say you know this but still you need to know what you want. Not everyone is in business for the same reason.

Some people want to start a business because they want to be independent.

Some people go in to business because they’ve lost their job.

Some people are in business because they have a greater desire.

Some people start because they want to get out of the rat race and call their own shot.

Whatever it is you want, here’s my suggestion on how to start going on your own…

Always make sure you plan before setting off, moreover you can improve things along the way.

When I was starting out I made it a habit to write things in a notebook. I write down everything that I wanted my business to be like. Some of my original writings included creating membership programs, VIP programs, Mastermind groups, Workshops or retreats. Speaking at universities. Creating information products, doing live streams and creating some high end programs too.

I wrote down things that excited me and lit that fire in my belly that made me want to jump up right then and there and get started!

The fun part of all the initial writing was sitting with a calculator and figuring out how much money I wanted to make.

I estimated having 15 clients registered for my 10-week boot camp progras. Ten week to teach people my step-by-step system. Clients will pay $249.00. That was $3,735 for the 10 weeks, payment done the first month!!!

Doing 4 VIP sessions a month for $1000 bringing in another $4000 that month.

Creating a membership inner circle for recurring months payment for $49 a month.

Creating an information product for $97 and sell at least 20 every month.

Creating a platinum program for $5999 all access coaching for 10 months.

It got really crazy and I’ll just blame that on the tequila.

This calculation brings me to almost $10,000 a month. Let me just stop right here and say… That was my initial planning. I hate to even tell you what I really bring in more than that now.

Everyday, I wrote in my book. My tagline, my elevation speech, my marketing message, teleseminar ideas, contests ideas, free offer ideas, live stream coaching, marketing ideas, just anything that came into my head that got me excited.

No matter what you want for yourself, start writing them down. This is the foundation, when you have it in writing it will be easy for you to put all things together.

It’s your business, create what you want,  create something that excites you and don’t base that decision on just money. Think about happling other and making a change to someones life because the more you give the more get back.

If you are passionate about what you do and you have a desire to succeed, the money will come.

The next uncomfortable things I had to do was  schedule it into my planner. I had to set a start date. This would be the day that I hold my first teleseminair to launch my coaching program. The day that I would start my very own business…

I schedule something in for the next 4 weeks to get the ball rolling. Even though I was scare I had to take a shot. It might be a little longer for you, it depending on how much time you have to put things together and do the foot work. If you already have a full time job, it may take longer.

There is no reason to re-invent the wheels.

The other thing I did that made all the difference in the world was  hiring a coach. Someone that is really successful doing what I want to do. I pay these people to show me the secrets, the short cuts so I can have a much more smoother ride. Leaning on giants was a great source of support.

Who else would know how to get more clients and grow a business than the people who are already running successful businesses?

These are the foundational dos to going from desk to boss in a short time.

Do the planning, vision it, do the math, set bold goal and take bold action. Even if you already have a business and you just want to give your business a new awareness, do these tasks.

Do a “Grand re-opening”.

What do you think about these fundamental steps, is there anything you want to share. What were the ground work you had to do to get start? Please share in the comment below

    Hi Joyce,
Having a real business plan is a must no matter how small or big is your business or if it’s online or offline. If you don’t know what are you goals and what you want to achieve with your business you are never going to achieve them…

Business plan is important but sometimes we spend too much time on it and forgt about how we are going to make the real money.

    Hi Joyce,
Planning is crucial. I use mind42.com to help me do that as well as notes but they end up here as well. No plan = no vision = no direction = no results. Plan your work and work your plan. Thanks for sharing because many still don’t have this and they do flop around in the internet and network marketing industries like fish.

    Hope they read your post.

    Hi Joyce,

I too have found list making to be extremely useful! When I have a list to go by I accomplish so much more! Though somehow I still manage to put off the least desirable one until the end! :) But without a list or a plan it’s sure that you won’t accomplish anything!

Love your comments. Thanks for adding you 2 cents. I really appreciate it. Something having a plan makes it easy to see what we are working through.

    Hi Joyce,

I do a lot of planning for my own business as well.

I’ve planned for the long term and I also plan every day. :-) Before I go to bed, I plan what I do the next day. In the morning, I just tick off what I have on that list and then see how much closer I am to my goals.

Doesn’t work for everyone…but works for me. Great article!

    Joyce,
The plan is the foundation!  It must be a very feminine trait to make a plan. What I love about writing that plan down is that you are not only clarifying your thoughts, creating a map of action, but coming one step closer to materializing those thoughts! The phrase: Failing to plan is planning to fail. Really drives it home for me.

Most businesses fail due to lack of planning, so the simple fact that you’ve come up with a plan AND written it down (even if its on a napkin) makes you that much more likely to succeed.

    Hi Joyce,

I like this post and especially the part about hiring a coach. I did that this week and am really looking forward to our sessions.

It’s great that you were able to plan your business, estimate your earnings, and then exceed your estimates.  Way to go!
